It is pretty obvious how one can remove archived versions of IconPackager and SkinStudio, but not so obvious in regard to archived versions of WB. Archived IP versions take up a lot of HDD space and so I generally only keep the last good version and remove all previous ones. I'm assuming that archived versions of WB also require a good amount of space and thus I want to delete all but the last "known good working" version too. How can this be done? and Where are they located?

When I look here: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP, I see entries for WB but they are only 1 KB zip files. Surely there must be another location where the actual files are located? or are the WB archived versions saved differently than IP archived versions, which on my system are all around 11 megs each and SS archived versions are about 4 megs each.

I guess I should also ask if it is safe to delete all but the latest 2 or 1 archived versions of both WB and IP? hehe

THANKS

Did you create an archive including all skins, or is the 1 KB just an update archive?

If you look at my mini tutorial on archiving here Link - you will see the WindowBlinds ".zip" archive folder (which includes all skins) is significantly larger than 1 KB - you will see it in the image showing all the archive ".zip" files.

You seem to either have an archive of an update that was only 1 KB in difference to the previous version, or there is an issue with that archive.

You can burn the individual archives to disc to save space, and then you will have them when needed.

If that 1 KB is an accurate update archive, then I would bet you will, at the least, need the previous archive which would include the program files, etc.

Thanks for the great Tutorial on archiving. What I had been relying upon was Stardock Central's option to archive programs when updating. So, I tried updating SKS, IP and WB. Archiving both SKS and IP resulted in full files. But when I archived WB, I got the same 1KB zip file which contains absolutely nothing; it's empty. The name of the file is: "WindowBlinds4_4.60.048_08.08.2005.zip". I'm going to guess the reason for this may be due to the fact that before installing Object Desktop, WB and IP were already installed as standalone apps. But thinking again, if that were the case, then archiving IP would result in the same thing it seems. I'm at a loss at this point. hehe

Normal procedure would be to uninstall the stand alone apps previous to installing the Object Desktop versions via Stardock Central to avoid issues.

If you created an archive following the mini tutorial and included all skins in the archive, and the archive size was still only 1 KB, then I would bet the issue is the stand alone version not being uninstalled first.

In this case, I would suggest removing WindowBlinds via Stardock Central (after saving your skin files to either a temporary folder, or disc) > reboot machine > look in "Add or Remove Programs" category of Control Panel for any listing for the Stand Alone version of WindowBlinds > remove any version found there (you may receive a message that WindowBlinds may have been uninstalled, and do you want to remove it from the list - confirm that you do).

Delete any WindowBlinds folder left in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" folder > delete the WindowBlinds archive ".zip" folder in the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP" folder > reinstall WindowBlinds via Stardock Central > test archiving function using the mini tutorial method to verify functionality.

If all works well, you can then create archives in whichever way you wish.

I hope this helps.

Recently, there seems to be something wrong with the archive function for Windowblinds in Stardock Central. Whether it's done automatically or manually, I always get a 1k zip for Windowblinds that is empty when opened. All other programs that I use archive correctly.

I have never had stand alone or free versions installed on this computer (been an Object Desktop subscriber for a long time)

Not sure what is causing the 1 KB empty file issue there.

I just tested on my machine:

Stardock Central version used = 2.10.343

Applications archived via "File > Archive Application > Entire Application (including skins)"

WindowBlinds version 4.60.048 - successful file size = 38,647 KB
IconPackager version 3.00b.093 - successful file size = 271,979 KB
IconDeveloper version 1.20.021 - successful file size = 1,962 KB
SkinStudio version 4.60.046 - successful file size = 4,634 KB
ObjectDockPlus version 1.20a.015 - successful file size = 99,382 KB

Note - WindowBlinds archive function was tested twice - once with WindowBlinds unloaded, and once with WindowBlinds loaded. Both instances resulted in successful archives.

If you are having issues with the same versions listed above, and no one else posts an idea here - you may want to contact Tech Support to report the issue.

I am not sure of all the files used by the application to build the file lists and package the files, so can not offer any useful ideas.

Good luck.
