The IE icon on neither the Quick Launch Toolbar or Start Menu change when I change icon packages. I can manually change them using their respective "Properties" however. Or, if I open IP and go to "Icons and Cursors" and click on the "Quick Launch" tab, it shows the current icon and I can change it to the actual icon for the package being used. However, if I click on the "Start menu" tab, the icon for IE of the current package already shows even though the actual icon being displayed is from another package. So, there it appears that there are 2 anomalies happening here: 1) Quick Launch: wrong icon displayed but it can be changed via either the Properties dialog or in IP's "Icons and Cursors" section. 2) Start Menu: wrong icon displayed but it can only be changed via the Properties dialog and not in IP.

This problem has been present in all versions of IP used, including the latest 3.00.089 version.

Any help in correcting this annoyance would be greatly appreciated.

Try deleting from quick launch and if on start is pinned to start menu remove, then click and drag from desktop to quick launch and to start button to open menu then to top of programs list to pin it. This fix has worked for me in the past.
Also since quick launch icon is 16x16 may not be same icon as on desktop.

Cavan1,

Thanks..... that worked perfectly. I first deleted the two icons (shortcuts) I had. Also, I didn't have a the IE icon (shortcut) on my Desktop, so I had to go into the Display Properties/Desktop/Customize Desktop section and put a check to have it displayed. Then I dragged a copy of that Desktop shortcut (icon) to the Quick Launch Bar and my Start Menu and finally returned to the Display Properties, etc... and unchecked Internet Explorer. So, now I have what I had before as far as icons (shortcuts) to IE but they now change with the icon package used.

If I may impose upon your, or anyone else's wisdom, once again, I noticed I am also have a similar problem with the "My Network Places" icon on the Desktop. In this case, if I revert to the default Windows XP icons, that particular icon changes to an IP package icon rather than the XP default icon. It will change, although with some hesitation and only after clicking "refresh" on the Desktop to the current icon of the IP package I'm using.

Anyone have a "fix" to resolve this one? Everything else is working as it should, thankfully. hehe

THANKS
