This small irritant was mentioned in passing by someone else in another thread and I thought I would bring it up for further possible discussion and to the notice of Stardock. First, this occurred with 4.6 and now with 5.0. More often than not, when I click on the "Start" button to open the Start Menu, the Start Menu "flickers" briefly before being displayed. The phenomena is universal, i.e., it is not skin specific although it doesn't happen 100% of the time, but perhaps 80% of the time.

Is there a specific reason for this anomaly?

Is Stardock aware of this issue?

Is there a current "fix" or is one planned in a near future update?

I too have this problem!  Although it seems minor it is amazing how annoying it actually is.

i had the exsact same problem and its becouse window fx is not compatible with window blinds 5. i got rid of it by turning off menu shadows in window fx. or if that doesnt work then try disableing all shadows. hope this helps it worked for me

oh and they are planning on making windowblinds and fx compatible with the new realse of window fx

But...I...don't...use....Window..Fx!

I also don't use shadows....hmmmm oh well I guess I can live with it....I think it something to do with alpha-blending and whatnot - seems I don't have a problem with opaque start menus

The graphics card you have may be relevant. Here's a list of what works/doesn't work, etc. At least one adapter has been known to cause flickering.

I have this too. On two different setups, one a laptop old school, and one on fully supported system. I have WindowFX runnin on the full-support system, with menu-shadows disabled all is well. However, on the laptop with per-pixel disabled in WBConfig, I get this flicker. I thought it might be just that the laptop is so old (366mhz, 8mb shared video), but I see that others have this annoyance. Is this WB?
